St. Paddy’s Lucky Kitten Food Drive 2024
Chicago
Beautiful Chicago was rescued by DREAM Animal Rescue from the East Valley Shelter in Los Angeles. She had been dumped there with an enlarged abdomen. It was determined she had a large mass on her spleen and her body was filling with fluid. She would die without treatment. After consulting with our emergency veterinarian, it was determined that the only way to save her life was to remove the spleen. there were concerns that the mass could be cancer and her life expectancy would be cut short. During the surgery it was discovered that some of the lymph nodes were also not looking normal so they were removed as well. Her surgery and recovery all went as expected and she is doing great. About a week later we received the results on the biopsies, the mas on the spleen was cancer. However the lymph nodes were clear. It is determined that she has mast cell lymphoma. This is a slower growing cancer and there’s not much treatment that can be done. We don’t know what her future hods or how long she will live. Looking at the cases similar to hers, life expectancy has been anywhere from 1 to 5 years. We are hoping its the latter. We would love to find her a forever home where she can live out her years in happiness and comfort. She has made a full recovery from surgery and is playing and acting like a kitten so we are hoping this is a good sign. Please help us in covering the costs for here surgery as they exceeded $4,600.
Mellow
Mellow is a very sweet Deaf kitty. “I’ve Been turned down. I’ve been pushed round. When will I be loved?”
Mellow has not had an easy life. She lived for 5 years with an older woman who passed away. Her children did not want her and relinquished her to a rescue where she was put with a foster Mom. She was confused about her new surroundings so it took her a while to start to unwind.
Mellow is a stunningly beautiful white cat with blue eyes and is deaf. The gene responsible for the white coat and blue eyes can also cause deafness…not all the time but this time. Mellow has never heard the sweet words of anyone but she has a loud meow she will gladly greet her foster Mom with. She probably never had toys because as she is afraid of them. She has however, taken a q-tip from the container, tossed it in the air, batted it around and then run away proudly carrying her prize possession. She will jump on sunbeams on the floor, try to hold them down with her paws then joyfully roll around on them. She will sit by the window and watch birds fly by and chitter at them. She lived without cats or dogs in those first 5 years and is terrified of them. She will do best in a home as a single pet. She will sit close to you. She wants so much to be loved but she doesn’t trust easily. It takes time for her to feel comfortable.
When Mellow is adopted it will be hard for her to adjust to a new home but after time and a loving person she will adjust. Once she bonds with a new person she will follow you everywhere prancing behind you. It will make your heart melt watching her. She will sit by you and rub against you. She’ll want you to pet her. She has beautiful fur and enjoys being brushed. She will love you. That special person is out there somewhere. The one willing to be patient and give Mellow a change and a forever home, where she can finally find peace and the love she so very much longs for and deserves. Till then Mellow waits for that person and for the answer to the question…”WHEN WILL I BE LOVED?”
